With its 1603 m above sea level, Sněžka is the highest mountain in the Giant Mountains Ridge, the Sudetenland, Bohemia and all of the Czech Republic and Silesia.

It is a significant dominant feature of the eastern section of the Giant Mountains. The Czech-Polish border passes over the peak of Sněžka and its highest point is on the polish side of the border, several metres to the west of the Chapel of Saint Lawrence. There is a gondola lift to the top from Pec pod Sněžkou which is 4.5 km away.
